social media smackdown (last smackdown)

For my last smackdown I would like to talk about a social media website called Last.fm. Last.fm basically shares different types of music with other people. This website does not limit to one type of music or one type of artist, it lets people hear music that they may have never heard before and to discover artists that they may have never known existed. It also informs people who is at the top of the music charts, and the most popular artist currently. This site lets you discuss with other people about what type of music they like and what they're tastes are as well as keeping a record of what music you look up and recommends other music based on your search history. Another feature is that the website informs you when artists/bands are going to being performing and in what state. If you have a strong love for music I recommend that you check out this website. The website can help me career wise because I also want to be involved in business, so if being a lawyer doesn't work out, I would like to be some type of manger for the entertainment industry. I can use this website to see where my artist stands with the people, how they react to their music and can make sure everyone knows where my artist will be performing.

I am not a big fan of reading but ironically my major involves a lot of reading like, documents and tons of references. What helps to get me through the readings that are assigned throughout the semester in a lll my classes is having some organization. Diingo is a website that can help with the trouble of organization, especially in college where it is very easy for things to begin to get jumbled up real fast. When looking up material for papers or other projects there is tons of information  you may want to use and highlight the importance of it. Diingo allows you to use the digital highlighter and it will automatically will save whatever statements or documents that they highlighted. It also allows you to add digital sticky notes and digital bookmarks so you can continue exactly where you left off. The information that is automatically saved goes into a personal library, that you set up, and each time you surf the web and highlight, sticky note it or even bookmark it it automatically goes into the library, this library is called cloud. The website makes it easy to share information with others and allows it to make it private or public so you can share with with members in your group for a project or even share with coworkers about a proposal. Diingo can be beneficial for any student and for people in the working field because of how easy it allows people to store, share and even look up information without having to take extra steps in between. This website is great for my future job of being a lawyer because of all the information I will end up looking for and reading it allows me to organize in a way that it does not become overwhelming.

In order to find out whats going on in the world or even in our own neighborhood we turn to newspapers, news channels and articles, but when we try to look into the story on news websites further we sometimes find nothing more or nothing at all. This is where Newsvine comes in handy, this site allows regular people in the community to post links to articles about a certain story that other people may not be able to find. It also allows people to put up their own written articles and have debates with other people about any headline story. This website can be used for school projects in political classes because it could allow the classes to discuss certain issues and where certain people stand on the issues. This can even come in handy in the field of law, example would be if I had a client that he plagiarized a song and he was being charged for it,  I could look at newsvine, aside from other news resources, and see what the people themselves are saying about him which would help me strategize on how he was going to show how sorry for what he did and get a lesser punishment/ or even prove he did not do depending on what the truth was.

Tech Blog 4

 When we are finally thrown in full force into the real world after college we should leave with  the knowledge to able to look for jobs and have some type of business sense no matter what jobs we may do. Which brings me to talk about a website called Penton. Penton is basically a business site that starts from the basics all the way to advanced details about the business world. For instance they can help show people how they should make business decisions, what to look for and what would be best for their business in any career. As well as marketing and creating opportunities for people to get their foot in the door. We learn a majority of this in college if we take business courses but it doesn't  hurt to have something to reference to if you forget certain details of business, also not everyone takes business courses so this definitely helps a lot.
Penton goes hand in hand with my career choice because I am, along with my majoring in political science, also minoring in business, so knowing how to market myself out to my clients would be very beneficial. Another reason is this site is beneficial for me is that eventually I want to start my own law firm and with the information that Penton can offer me it can help to make sure that I'm running my business in the right direction.

SMACKDOWN #3

For this smack down I would like to talk about probably one of the worst websites that  have probably ever seen called libertyvan.com . I have never been on a site that made me so confused on what to look at because as soon as your on the site there is so much information that your shown you don't know where to look. When you go onto the website there is nothing but links after links after links on that one page alone. Normally a good website will have certain links under certain categories that you can look at by going to certain tabs, well that is definitely not this website. When I initially went onto the site I didn't even know what it was for, all I saw were links and pictures of vans decorated to the max. The site is basically showing vans that are decorated and promote political issues and peoples' rights, which I think its great if someone want to express their opinion about the views of their political rights on a van; to each is own. However these vans are so over decorated that you cannot even see what they are even talking about it just looks like something that should be in a circus.

Even when you really try to read the information given, some of the sentences overlap each other so its hard to make out what they are saying. Honestly when I saw the pictures of the van I thought they were pinatas. Also when reading what its somewhat about it talks about liberty and freedom vans but randomly throws in that they do dog shows too. Basically this site would confuse anyone.    

TECH BLOG 3

For this Tech blog I would like to talk about the app that Taryn talked about last week, Pandora. Pandora lets you listen to any type of music, on any music station by any artist. For me personally music is the best way to relax, forget about all the stress thats going on and/or just to have a great time. As odd as this may sound this app can actually help me with my future job of being a lawyer. The type of field I want to be in is a lawyer in the music entertainment industry, basically have music artists for clients, make sure the rights of their music agreement is fair, etc. Using pandora can help me listen to the type of music they normally do and make sure there were no changes in the song that the artist them selves were not aware of. Also to hear past songs to make sure that other artist have not copied any song that my client has already produced and has rights to.

Pandora is great because I like listening to the songs that I have not heard in years, songs that I didn't even know certain artists sang and to hear songs that I've never heard before. Normally what I do is I'll go on pandora, listen to any station and if I hear a song that I particularly like I'll look at the name of the song and artist, type it in on a music downloading app and download the song. This makes looking for songs that I like much easier.

APP SMACKDOWN

For my app smack down I would like to talk about the app Job Search. Job Search is want it entails in the title you can look for jobs. When using this app to search for a job you can come across millions of different jobs from thousands of different companies for free. Going through the steps on how to apply for a job can be sometimes difficult and tiring, however this app will help with the whole entire process. It is easy to download and not to mention again that it is free, it can help you look for jobs close the cities that you live in and  it can look for full-time, part-time, internships and or  any other type of different jobs. You can even create or tweak up your resume and send them straight the jobs that your are applying to. I think my favorite feature about this app is that if you don't have time to apply for a job that you were looking at you can send yourself a reminder to do it later or even save that favorite job to your account so you can look it up later.

This app is perfect for students, people who are just stepping foot into the real working world or even people who have been working for 30years. This app, personally is perfect for me because I'm not too familiar with job searching, so I believe this app will help guide me in my job searches while I'm still in college and even after I graduate.

For this second tech blog I would like to talk about one of the web tools that were introduced during the Smack down presentations. The web tool that Rachel presented,OneDrive, I thought was very useful and the biggest web tool that interested me the most. The first reason why I thought it was so useful is because of the feature that she mentioned, that you did not need to have Microsoft on the computer in order to have OneDrive. Some computers sometimes do not have any Microsoft  ( does not happen all the time but it happens) and this web tool would come in handy for that.

Another reason is because of how organized it is with documents and how much it can actually hold. Being a future a future lawyer there are going to be a lot of papers that I will need to write and important documents that I'll need to have for future clients. Also if I want to refer back to past cases that I have worked on it will make it a lot easier to find. This is definitely a web tool I will be using in the  future.

For this tech blog I would like to talk about the website Yugma. Yugma is a site where you can set up conferences and collaborations with numerous people no matter where they are. In this generation people are always on the go whether it be for work  and/or personal reasons. Some may have been even transferred to a different state but are still part of the same company and just live in a different part of the world; this site makes it easier to be part of  meetings and to get information even though you are not physically there.  Yugma also allows you to host the web conferences, help with training programs for companies, help with online sales and presentations.

As a lawyer talking with clients and other lawyers are essential when discussing a case especially when the two parties want to come to an agreement and make a deal. This website not only helps with my major but with my minor as well, which is business. In the business aspect there are always meetings about how the business is doing, what can be done to improve the business and how can we advertise it. Though this site is more preferred for a business sense it can be used by Stockton students too. An example would be if a professor cannot make it to class , they can create a collaboration , have everyone sign up and log in and still have a  discussion.

Though I have not yet used this website , I feel it will come in handy when I do become a lawyer and make it easier when making deals with others and showing how my information can benefit others as well as my own company.

Connection is everything when it comes to the working field, especially in today' generation. Being successful is mostly about who you know and who are the right people to be connected with. However there is another component that is needed and that is to know your facts, especially in the political field. The best app I believe to be a very big contributor to gaining the facts is the kindle app. This app makes it easy to look up books, references, and even good recommendations to what you exactly need. It comes in handy for school, working life or just when you want to enjoy a good book.

Being a political major, law mainly, this app is of great use for me, due to the fact that lawyers always have their noses in the books. When presenting a case you, not only  need to know the facts of the case, you must know how and in what way to present a case. This is where the kindle comes in. I could type in references to previous cases or type "political cases" in general and some maybe similar to mine and the app can give me recommendations as to what book might be good to use. This app may seem that it is only good for looking up books and not making connections at all, but it can also be useful when trying to find cheap books. That aspect comes in handy when your trying to pay for law school and the books are so expensive, you can look on kindle to see if you can get it for a little less. Also instead of having to carrying your books in your hands you just have the book on your tablet or on your phone to make it easier.
